At Kehilat Sar Shalom, we want to build relationships among congregants, and strengthen the bonds between Synagogue members beyond the confines of formal worship services. One way to make KSS a house of Shalom is at the Oneg Shabbat.

Oneg means "delight," and to keep the Sabbath a delight, we all need to pitch in and help keep our Sabbath meal together, restful and hospitable. - "If you call the Sabbath a Delight..." (Isaiah 58:13,14)

Keep the Sabbath Restful

We should completely prepare our contribution before the Sabbath and before bringing it to Oneg. This includes:

*Note: We do not accept any contributions that are purchased or prepared on Shabbat.

When it’s time to clean up we all need to clear our own pot or dish from the serving table and take it home to be washed after the Sabbath. We should clear ours and our children's plate from the tables and place them in the trash.

Keep the Sabbath

To keep the Sabbath a delight for all, our Shabbat onegs are a pot blessing after our Sabbath Service. We encourage all members and regular attendees to contribute. Some suggestions include: salmon, tuna, bagels, cheese, vegetables, salads, pasta or potato salad. You can also bring side items like fruit, chips, olives, pickles, or dessert. We also make sure that whatever we contribute is ready to serve, as this ensures we can all enjoy a delicious lunch and time of fellowship together.

We as a community, do not eat unclean animals, or anything containing ingredients that are biblically unclean.

Keep The Sabbath Hospitable

If we keep these guidelines in mind, Oneg will truly be a delight. Thank you for your cooperation!
